§ 58-34. Waterworks superintendent.

  • (a)

    Office established. The office of the waterworks superintendent is hereby created.

    (b)

    Appointment; salary; bond. The waterworks superintendent shall be appointed by the town council and shall hold office at the pleasure of the council. He shall be paid such salary per month as may be fixed from time to time by the town council. The council may, at its discretion, require such official to give bond with sufficient surety to account for all moneys collected by or coming into his hands as such official.

    (c)

    Duties. It shall be the duty of the waterworks superintendent to:

    (1)

    Generally supervise the entire waterworks system.

    (2)

    Direct proper care and maintenance of buildings, machines and equipment.

    (3)

    In emergencies, employ skilled assistants to make repairs.

    (4)

    Regularly inspect the system and fire hydrants.

    (5)

    Furnish requisitions for supplies, etc., to the town council.

    (6)

    Supervise tapping installations and inspections.

    (7)

    Supervise meter readings.

    (8)

    Set up proper billing procedures.

    (9)

    Submit required operating administrative reports to the town council.

    (10)

    Report all matters of interest, making suggestions as to improvements for efficiency and economy pertaining to the system.

    (11)

    Report violations of this article.

    (12)

    Direct the shutting off of water for patrons who neglect and refuse to pay for service.

    (13)

    Perform all other such duties pertaining to the system as the town council may direct.
